6-Day Southern Morocco Tour: Starting and Ending in Ouarzazate

This 6-day itinerary takes you through the highlights of southern Morocco, showcasing the Sahara Desert, stunning valleys, and historic kasbahs. Begin and end your journey in Ouarzazate, the gateway to the Sahara.

 

Day 1: Arrival in Ouarzazate and Ait Benhaddou

Start your journey in Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Morocco.” Visit the Kasbah Taourirt and the Atlas Film Studios. In the afternoon, head to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Benhaddou, a historic fortified village. Spend the night in a boutique hotel near Ait Benhaddou.

 

Day 2: Ouarzazate to Dades Valley via Skoura Oasis

Travel through the lush Skoura Oasis, known for its palm groves and the iconic Kasbah Amridil. Continue to the Dades Valley, stopping at the Valley of Roses for scenic views and local handicrafts. Explore the dramatic rock formations of the Dades Gorges and stay overnight in a charming guesthouse.

 

Day 3: Dades Valley to Merzouga (Sahara Desert)

Journey through the Todra Gorge, a spectacular canyon with towering cliffs, and continue to Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara Desert. Take a camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes to watch the sunset. Enjoy a magical night under the stars in a luxury desert camp, complete with traditional Berber music.

 

Day 4: Explore the Sahara Desert

Wake up early to catch the sunrise over the dunes. Spend the day exploring the desert by 4x4, visiting nomadic families, fossil sites, and the Khamlia village known for its Gnawa music. Return to your desert camp or stay in a nearby kasbah-style guesthouse.

 

Day 5: Merzouga to Agdz via Nkob

Travel through the Anti-Atlas Mountains to Nkob, a village known for its many kasbahs and tranquil atmosphere. Continue to Agdz and explore the beautiful Draa Valley, filled with palm groves and historic kasbahs. Stay overnight in a traditional guesthouse in Agdz.

 

Day 6: Agdz to Ouarzazate and Departure

Return to Ouarzazate, stopping along the way to visit Kasbah Tamnougalt in the Draa Valley. Spend your afternoon exploring any sights you may have missed before your departure from Ouarzazate.
